NETS equipment
NETS equipment can be described as a mobile intensive care unit. At first sight, the large amount of complex equipment can be frightening or overwhelming.
Monitoring
Your child's heartbeat, breathing rate, temperature and other functions will all be measured (monitored) continuously. If your child needs assistance with breathing, a machine called a ventilator may be used to help with breathing.
Incubators
Babies weighing less than 6kg need a special cot called an incubator to keep them warm. The incubator is one part of a patient transport system that contains all the tools we need to monitor your baby during the transfer.
What's that sound?
You may notice that the system 'beeps' every few minutes. This happens normally when the batteries are in use.
Stretchers
Larger children are usually cared for on a special stretcher with a box over the legs called a bridge. The bridge holds all the monitoring equipment, and the stretcher has special mattresses and harnesses to keep your child safe.
