Good Egg pack

Good Egg pack

The Good Egg pack contains specialised equipment available for regional paediatricians to take to a small rural or regional hospital until the NETS team arrive.

The Good Egg packs contain the required equipment of very small sizes needed to undertake respiratory support, vascular access and associated specialty procedures for preterm babies and infants to support their breathing and circulation.

With the support of the Humpty Dumpty Foundation and their generous donors, NETS has distributed Good Egg packs across NSW in base hospitals and large district hospitals to be co-located with regional paediatricians.

In emergencies, the expertise of a regional paediatrician may be required to effectively resuscitate a baby and support the team in a small hospital when they can be at the bedside faster than the NETS team. This response will be coordinated by the NETS consultants who will provide expert clinical advice to the local team. The regional paediatrician will use the Good Egg pack to stabilise the baby until the NETS team arrive.

The Good Egg packs contain equipment for newborns and infants up to about 10kg, including:

  • Neopuff resuscitator
  • saturation probes and blood pressure cuffs
  • specialty items such as Replogle tubes, umbilical vessel lines and indwelling catheters
  • very small hats and booties to help maintain the temperature of preterm newborns
